Wikis can be exceptional tools used in the classroom as a mean of getting students more involved in the lesson. It could be used to get feedback on the lesson from the students, as well as a sharing tool of notes for the students. The wiki can also be used as a "'Hall of fame  achievement site"' where only the students who performed above the standard will be placed on the site, as a motivation.



Reflection -7

For portfolio piece#7, I produced  wiki, from wikki spaces.com. There were quite a number of challenges faced in creating this site, all mainly revolving around the formatting of the pages, and the limited templates available. . The Formatting issues were solved through basically doing much tampering and issistance from friends, but mainly tampering.This piece could have been improved if more information on a whole was added, making it more attractive, as well as the templates.
In all the experience was not bad.

Fibers Movie

Using movie maker in the classroom will be used to engage students who might not otherwise read course material and/or help students to better understand course material by being able to relate that material to a medium with which they are more familiar. The movie maker can also facilitate the visual learners, in terms of instruction.



Reflections
For portfolio piece No.6, I produced a short video on natural fibers; from their source to fabrics. It was specifically created to be an introduction to my lesson on natural fibers where I showed a lot of pictures on the four main sources: cotton, linen, sheep, and silk, and how they were produced. This piece will also be used by students in aid of completing a homework assignment and therefore is also being utilized as a means of assessment. There were quite a few challenges faced in creating this video. Finding an appropriate audio was a bit difficult and adding transitions and effects to each picture was quite timely. There was also great difficulty in getting the video uploaded to the blog. It took days, hours, minutes and patience, but all in all I got through after much fiddling and tampering, and assistance from friends. This video could have been improved if better effects were available in windows movie maker that would have allowed a more smooth flow between transitioning pictures.

How would the blog be beneficial in the classroom

Using the blog in the classroom would be beneficial to all, but for those who need some scaffolding and mentoring, the blog will come in handy. Here the blog would be able to motivate the non participants, the slow learners and those who just didn't understand the lesson . Instructions will be placed on the blog for them to follow.
The blog can also be used as a peer to peer review, in cases where group assignments, and  research are given, group members will have the opportunity to meet online and discuss their findings. In the mean time i'll be able to contribute.
I think the blog is a great idea.

Department of teacher education

Hey guys, help our colleagues by sharing ways in which you find time to accommodate all the courses in our study. I know most of you must be in a state of disequilibrium right now (I know I am) with so much going on. I just want to wish each and everyone of you success in all areas, and most importantly remember to thank God for this opportunity. While thanking Him lean on Him for STRENGTH and GUIDANCE.

Tips

1. If your first class begins at 10:15, try to go in earlier like 8:15 or so. This will give you two hours to study or complete an assignment. This could be done individually or as a group. Or you can work on reflections that we tend to forget sometimes.
